The store has seen several expansions and renovations over the years, increasing its size and offerings. In 1961, at the age of 21 years, Kevin O. Adams bought the Kittery Trading Post from his father. In 1986, Kevin O. Adams retired at the age of 47 to enjoy the great outdoors.
